A fine Great War D.S.O., M.C. group of six awarded to Lieutenant-Colonel F. B. Follett, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, attached 9th London Regiment, late Lumsden’s Horse

Distinguished Service Order, G.V.R., reverse centre chipped; Military Cross, G.V.R.; Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Johannesburg (Tpr., Lumsden’s Horse); 1914 Star, with clasp (Capt., R. War. R.); British War and Victory Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaf (Lt. Col.) except as described, extremely fine (6) £1400-1600

D.S.O. London Gazette 18 July 1917: ‘Major (Acting Lieutenant-Colonel) Francis Bere Follett, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, attached London Regiment. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He commanded his battalion with the utmost gallantry and skill. By his energy and grasp of the situation the brigade was enabled to reach its objective, having been previously held up by uncut wire and machine guns.’

Francis Bere Follett was a coffee planter from the Bynekhan Estate in Mysore, and served in the ranks of Lumsden’s Horse in South Africa during 1901 (Medal with 3 clasps). During the Great War he was mentioned in despatches
London Gazette 17 February 1915, 18 December 1917, and 8 July 1919 (1914 Star, D.S.O., M.C.). His D.S.O. was awarded for gallantry at River Cogeul.
