Three: Private N. M. Gibbs, East African Mounted Rifles

1914-15 Star (214 Pte., E. Afr. M. Rif.); British War and Victory Medals (214 Pte., E. Afr. M. Rif.) extremely fine (3) £80-100

Private Noel Martin Gibbs, East African Mounted Rifles, died on 20 March 1916, and is buried in Moshi Cemetery, Tanzania. He was and Old Etonian and aged 31 at the time of his death.

During the 1914-18 War, Moshi was unsuccessfully attacked by British troops at the beginning of September, 1914; but on the 13th March, 1916, South African cavalry seized New Moshi, and on the 15th they occupied Old Moshi. It is probable that Gibbs was killed or died of wounds received in this action.
