Hubert Erasmus Alexander was wounded by a bomb explosion at Fricourt on 20 June 1916 whilst serving with the 7th Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment. The explosion killed the two men he was talking to at the time, and severely wounded him, also leaving him suffering with shell shock. Alexander subsequently gained a commission in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, with whom he served as a Transport Officer. Sold with nine pages copied from his P.R.O correspondence file.
