A ‘Contemptible Little Flying Corps’ group of five awarded to Sergeant-Major A. Attree, Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force

1914-15 Star (38 Sjt., R.F.C.) surname spelt ‘Altree’; British War and Victory Medals (38 S.M.1, R.A.F.) surname spelt ‘Attrel’ on these; India General Service 1908-35, 1 clasp, Waziristan 1925 (38 F/Sgt., R.A.F.); Royal Air Force L.S. & G.C., G.V.R. (38 S.M.2, R.A.F.) light contact marks, otherwise very fine or better and a rare group (5) £600-800

Arthur Ernest Attree was born in Brighton and enlisted on 11 February 1909, formerly 18511 Sapper, Balloon School, Royal Engineers, on mobilisation of Air Battalion. He served in India 1915-18, and then in Egypt. He returned to India where he took part in the Waziristan operations of 1925, for which approximately 275 clasps were awarded, mostly to the Royal Air Force. He received his L.S. & G.C. Medal in February 1927, as Sergeant Major 2, was appointed W.O. 1st Class in January 1930, and released on pension in 1933.
