Henry William D’Ace was born at Winchester, Hampshire, and enlisted for the Essex Regiment at Warley on 1 September 1897. He was promoted to Corporal in June 1900 and to Sergeant in August 1902. He served in India and Burma from August 1902 until December 1910, when he was discharged with permission to reside in India. He was recalled on the outbreak of war and served with the Suffolk Regiment as a Warrant Officer Class 2. Sold with copy service papers.
