A group of six awarded to Lieutenant Colonel S. D. Brancker, R.A.S.C., late East Surrey Regiment, which includes the very rare clasp for East Africa 1904

Lieutenant Colonel S. D. Brancker served in South Africa 1899-1902, and was present at the Relief of Ladysmith including the action at Spion Kop. He was wounded in action at Pieters Hill, 27 February, 1900, and present at the action at Belfast. Lieutenant Brancker commanded a column in the punitive expedition against the Kikuyu and Embu tribes in February and March, 1904. In all, over 11,000 stock were captured at the cost of 3 men killed and 33 wounded. Over 1,000 enemy were killed, estimated at 797 Kikuyu and about 250 Embu. The medal roll for this clasp shows entitlement for only 3 British officers, 5 Political Officers and 123 natives from the King's African Rifles and the East African Police. In the Great War Brancker served with the R.A.S.C. in command of the 54th Divisional Train, 6 September 1917 to 12 March, 1918. He also served in Greek Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria, European Turkey, and the islands of the Aegean Sea, 15 November 1915 to 21 September 1916; and with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force from 29 September 1916 to 26 May 1918.
