An unusual presentation medallion given to Lord Baden Powell by veterans of the Scandinavian Corps who fought against the British at Magersfontein in 1899. LARGE SILVER MEDALLION, 90 mm diameter, obverse stylised Viking longship at sea following the North Star, with the words 'DE KUNDE / ICKE VIKA BLOTT FALLA / KUNDE DE' (trans. They could not escape but only fall they could); Reverse: the national emblems of the four Scandinavian countries between the arms of a cross surrounded by the legend 'AT MINNET AV DEN SKANDINAVISKA KARENS STRID VID MAGERSFONTEIN 1899' (trans. To the memory of the Scandinavian Corps who fought at Magersfontein 1899), the edge hallmarked and inscribed 'General Lord Baden Powell, Com. in Chief at Mafeking from admiring Skand:ns.,' contained in plush fitted leather and gilt tooled presentation case, good very fine
This medallion was presented to Lord Baden Powell at Stockholm on 7 August, 1935 by Mr. Uggla on behalf of the Scandinavian Corps.
