ABYSSINIA 1867-68 (Lt. Col. E. Campbell, 3rd Regt. Bombay N.I.) toned, nearly extremely fine
Colonel Edmund Campbell served in the Sind and Afghanistan with the Force under General Brookes, and was present at both actions of Hykulzye, the forcing of the Kojjuck Pass, and relief of Candahar on 29th May, 1842, during the engagement under the city walls between Sir Wm. Nott's Forces and the Army under Akbar Khan (medal). Present with the Light Battalion in the Argandaub Valley at the reduction of several forts. In the Sind under Sir Charles Napier in 1842-43. Served during the campaign in Central India on the Staff of Sir Hugh Rose, and was present at the capture of Ratghur, action of Barodea (wounded), relief of Saugor, capture of Garrakota, forcing of the Muddenpore Pass, operation en route to Jhansi, capture of Jhansi, battle of Betwa (horse wounded), action of Koonch, operations leading to the capture of Calpee, battle and capture of Gwalior (several times mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, medal with clasp). Commanded the 3rd Bombay Native Infantry in the Abyssinian Campaign (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Colonel, and medal). Colonel Campbell returned to England on Sick Furlough shortly after the end of the campaign and died in September, 1870.
