NEW ZEALAND 1845-66, dated 1863 to 1864 (Captn. L. W. Fisher, 40th Regt.) contact marks, very fine
Major Louis Walter Fisher served with the 82nd Regiment during the suppression of the Indian Mutiny in 1857-8 in Oude and Rohilcund, and was present at the defence of the Sail at Shahjehanpore and affairs subsequent to its relief (medal). Served with the 40th Regiment in the New Zealand War of 1863-65, and was present at Waiari, where he led the attack, and at Orakau where he was severely wounded (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, medal). As a result of his wounds Major Fisher retired, by sale of his commission, on 1 March, 1864.
