INDIAN MUTINY 1857-58, 1 clasp, Delhi (Capt. Geo. McAndrew, 47th Bengal N.I.), good very fine

Major-General George McAndrew served throughout the Sutlej Campaign and was present at the actions of Moodkee, Ferozeshuhur, Buddiwal, Aliwal, and Sobraon (medal and 3 clasps). He served as Staff Officer with a detachment of troops against the insurgents in the Tharrawadie district in Burma in 1854. During the siege of Delhi, in 1857, he commanded the contingent troops furnished from the Cis-Sutlej States. He commanded a Field Force, consisting of two Horse Artillery Guns, a party of Mooltanee Horse and 400 Military Police against the insurgent tribes of the Ravie, in the Gogaira District (medal and clasp). He received the thanks of H.E. the Commander-in-Chief, for services at Delhi, 25th May, 1857; and of the Governor-General (twice) for services in 1857,20th June and 30th November, 1857. He was promoted Deputy Inspector General of Police, Umballa Circle, 4 February, 1861, and retired with the rank of Major-General in 1876.
