Waterloo 1815 (William Elwell, 2nd Batt. 59th Reg. Foot.) fitted with original steel clip and ring suspension, edge bruising, otherwise nearly very fine £1400-1600

William Elwell was born at Ironden [Ovenden?] Halifax, Yorkshire, circa 1777, and enlisted into the 2/59th Foot on 22 December 1806, aged 29 years. He served in Portugal and Spain in 1808-09, in the Walcheren expedition 1809, in the Peninsula 1812-14, and at the battle of Waterloo on 18 June 1815. He was discharged on 18 May 1817, in consequence of ‘ill health’.
