1895 Pattern Infantry Officer’s Presentation Sword to Captain W. G. Heys 5th Volunteer Battalion Manchester Regiment, the 80.5 cm straight blade with single fuller by Hobson & Sons, Lexington St., London is etched with the crown over Egypt over a Sphinx and presentation inscription ‘Presented to Captain Wm. George Heys Manchester Regiment by a few Manchester friends on his departure to South Africa 1901’, on the reverse a further inscription ‘Capt. Wm. Geo. Heys Manchester Regt.’, the pierced sheet metal hand guard with crowned VR cypher, wire bound fish skin grip and brown leather sword knot contained in its brown leather service scabbard, the blade with some staining and the leather scabbard lacking the attachment strap £300-400

Note: Heys was killed in action at Gallipoli 4 June 1915 as Lieut. Colonel Commanding 42nd Brigade. With copied research.
