James Forbes Crossan was born in Kilbirnie, Aryshire on 10 May 1912. Employed as a Commercial Artist, he enlisted at Montreal on 15 August 1940. Serving in the Royal Canadian Artillery, he was immediately advanced to Acting Sergeant and then promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant in September 1940. Promoted to Acting Battery Sergeant-Major in April 1941; confirmed in that rank in July 1941; promoted to Acting Regimental Sergeant-Major in November 1941. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in August 1942; Lieutenant in February 1943 and Acting Captain in March 1945.
Sold with three identity disks; cloth badge; Soldier’s Service and Pay Book; Canadian Army Officers’ Record of Service; commission document appointing him 2nd Lieutenant; photograph of the recipient; seven group photographs - one with identifications; newspaper cutting with photograph of Crossan being presented with a trophy.
