William Ainsworth Henri was born in Norwood on 3 October 1890, the son of Arthur Henri and Margaret Ellen Henri. A Solicitor by occupation and a former member of the 24th County of London Yeomanry, he was appointed a Private in the Inns of Court O.T.C., 24 November 1914. He was discharged to a commission in the 11th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers on 19 December 1914. With them he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 25 August 1915. As a Temporary Lieutenant he earned the Military Cross (London Gazette 1 January 1918). Appointed Temporary Captain in January 1918. After leaving the army, William Ainsworth Henri married Lucy Rosalind Poynting on 22 September 1919. As a retired Solicitor, he died in Banstead on 24 November 1941.
