Fred Waterhouse was born in Hayfield, Derbyshire, lived in Stockport, Cheshire and enlisted at Huddersfield, Yorkshire. Serving in the 12th Battalion Manchester Regiment, he was killed in action at the battle of the Somme, 7 July 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

Medals to Sergeant F. B. Waterhouse, R.A.F., with W.W.2 medal forwarding slip. A note with the medals indicates that he served with No. 72 Squadron at R.A.F. Odiham.
