John Nooney was born and lived in Wallasey, Cheshire and enlisted in Liverpool in September 1914. He went to France with the original contingent of the 19th (3rd City) ‘Pals’ Battalion on 7 November 1915, and was killed in action in the attack on Guillemont Village, Somme on 30 July 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. He was the son of J. P. Nooney, of 16 Mayfield Road, Wallasey. He had previously worked for Armour & Co., Packers & Provision Merchants, Victoria Street, Liverpool and was a one time member of the Thorndale Tennis Club.

Sold with slip to accompany the plaque and copied research including copied newspaper cuttings, including picture of recipient.
