Four: Subedar Ranbir Thapa, 2nd Gurkha Rifles

India General Service 1895-1902, 3 clasps, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Tirah 1897-98, Samana 1897 (2673 Rifleman Ranbir Thapa, 1st Bn. 2d Goorkhas); India General Service 1908-35, 1 clasp, Abor 1911-12 (2673 Havildar Ranbir Thapa, 1st Bn. 2nd K.E.O. Goorkhas); British War and Victory Medals (Subdr. Ranbir Thapa, 1-2 Grks.), the first officially corrected unit and with damaged / defective suspension post and claw, fine, otherwise generally very fine (4) £300-400

Ranbir Thapa enlisted in the 2nd Goorkha Rifles in 1893. He was promoted Jemadar in 1913 and Subedar in 1916. He transferred to the newly raised 3rd Reserve Battalion, Gurkha Rifles in 1917, which later became the 3rd Battalion, 6th Gurkha Rifles. Indian Army Lists confirm that he served on the North West Frontier 1897-98 (Medal & 3 clasps), in the Abor Expedition in 1911-22 (Medal & clasp) and in Mespotamia in the Great War.
