Edward William Lloyd was born on 26 June 1855, the son of W. Butler Lloyd, of Montford Hall, Shropshire. He was educated at Foster’s School, Stubbington and H.M.S. Britannia. Passed into the Royal Navy in 1868. Appointed Sub-Lieutenant and promoted to Lieutenant in 1877. Served on H.M.S. Temeraire in the expedition to the Sea of Marmora, 1878. Served on the battleship H.M.S. Inflexible, 1881-85 and was present at the bombardment of Alexandria, 11 July 1882. On the Staff of the Director of Naval Ordnance, 1889; promoted to Commander in 1889 and resigned from the Navy in 1889 and joined the firm of Armstrong Whitworth. On the Emergency List of R.N. Officers, 1901. Awarded the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun, 4th Class in 1904, for services to the Japanese Government. Was Commander of the Tyneside Division, R.N.V.R., 1904-14. Appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath in 1911. Served with the Ministry of Munitions, October 1915-February 1919. Latterly lived at Monkmoor, Weybridge. Commander Lloyd died on 22 September 1945. With some copied research.
