George Hocking, Pumpman aboard the S.S.
San Ubaldo, was awarded the B.E.M. in the Birthday Honours List of 1944. The ship was part of the Eagle Oil & Shipping Company’s fleet. She was requisitioned by the Admiralty and was employed as a fleet oiler in the Clyde and the English Channel - including the invasion of Normandy - her job being to refuel naval ships and landing craft.
