Miscellaneous, Engraved coin: Victoria, Sixpence, young head type, rev. skilfully worked, in the centre in three lines in italic script ‘S. Brown, Sherness, Kent’ and around in small caps *shannon* 1st june 1813*. Coin fine, an interesting piece (£50-60)

The inscription refers to the engagement between the British vessel Shannon and the American ship Chesapeake outside Boston harbour on 1 June 1813. The Chesapeake was boarded during the action, which resulted in the loss of 48 dead and 96 wounded
