Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 5 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (222 Corpl. G. Duncan, Hampshire Regt.), contained in an old leather fitted case, last two clasp loose on riband, extremely fine £120-160

George John Duncan was born in Dublin and enlisted in the Hampshire Regiment at Winchester in February 1900, aged 25 years, direct from the 2nd (Volunteer) Battalion. Transferred to the Army Reserve, he was recalled to the Colours in February 1901, when he was appointed a Lance-Corporal in the 2nd Battalion, Hampshire Regiment and embarked for South Africa. He returned home in August 1902 and was discharged as medically unfit, his service record noting that he had been injured in a railway accident at Barbeton on 30 March 1902; sold with copied attestation and service papers, medal & clasp roll verification.
