Five: Sergeant M. King, Australian Army

Australian Active Service Medal 1945-75, 1 clasp, Vietnam, reverse marked ‘Replica’; Vietnam 1964-73 (61514 M. King) edge additionally marked, ‘D’ for ‘Duplicate’; Defence Force Service Medal, reverse inscribed, ‘61514 King M.’; National Medal, reverse inscribed, ‘61514 M. King’; South Vietnam Medal 1964, 1 clasp, 1960-, reverse inscribed, ‘M. King’, additionally inscribed ‘D’ for ‘Duplicate’, mounted court for display, nearly extremely fine (7) £160-200

Michael King, who was born in England in August 1945, enlisted in the Citizen Military Forces in October 1961 and the Australian Regular Army at Hobart, Tasmania in April 1963. Drafted to the 5th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, he served in South Vietnam in 1966-67 and again in 1969-70, latterly as a member of the 8th Battalion, R.A.R.

Sold with cases of issue for the Defence Force Service Medal and National Medal - each containing a dress miniature medal and riband bar; Royal Australian Infantry Corps cap badge; South Vietnam cross of gallantry unit citation riband bar; presentation shield from ‘Paterson Barracks Sergeants’ Mess’, ‘Presented to Sgt. M. King 20 Sep. ‘79’; and a postcard of a helicopter in Vietnam; and an extensive file with copied record of service.

Also with a copied newspaper cutting: ‘’Gong’ for Mick King. This week at the Youngtown Army Barracks, our Records Officer Mick King was presented with the Defence Forces Service Medal for efficient service. Mick served for 20 years in the Australian Army. He joined in 1963, was promoted to Corporal in 1965. He served in Vietnam 1966-67, Malaya 1967-69, Vietnam again 1969-70. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1970. Mick transferred to the Ordnance Corps in 1975. He was stationed at Youngtown between then and 1979. ...’
