Lance-Corporal William Edwin Parsons, 1st Battalion Green Howards, was killed/died in Italy on 23 May 1944, aged 24 years. He was buried in the Beach Head War Cemetery, Anzio. He was the son of Isaac and Lilian Parsons, and husband of Catherine Margaret Helen Parsons, of Middlesborough, Yorkshire.

Medals attributed to Parsons in damaged card forwarding box addressed to ‘Mrs C. M. Parsons, 4 Pallister Avenue, Brambles Farm, North Ormsby, Middlesborough’; with damaged and fragile condolence slip; with ‘Green Howards’ bronze medal, unnamed and a base metal ring, inscribed, ‘Anzio’.

Frank Kiddy, a Motor Driver, enlisted on 7 January 1936. Served in the R.A.S.C. Captured at Tobruk in North Africa, he was a prisoner-of-war, 29 June 1942-9 May 1945; P.O.W. no. 260707 and was held at Oerbke, near Fallingbostel.

Medals attributed to Kiddy with Soldier’s Release Book; East Riding of Yorkshire Driving Licence; R.A.S.C. Regimental Association Card; Christmas Postcards (2); photograph of the recipient. With a modern hand written note stating he had previously escaped from Dunkirk to Bilao, Spain and thence to England.

Flying Officer John Hugh Dennis, R.A.F.V.R., 2908 Squadron, R.A.F. Regiment, was killed in action while attached to “Pomforce” in Greece on 28 October 1944, when his armoured car came under heavy fire and he was hit in the head; his driver, Corporal G. H. Wingate, was awarded the M.M. for the same action (see In Adversity, by Squadron Leader Nicholas G. Tucker, for full details). Dennis, who was 37 years old, was buried in the Phaleron War Cemetery, Greece and received a posthumous mention in despatches (London Gazette 14 June 1945, refers). He was the son of Frederick Willifer Dennis and Annie Dennis, of Scarborough and husband of Irene Dennis, of Newby, Scarborough.
