John Wheatley Milnes was born and lived in Scarborough, North Yorkshire and enlisted at Chiswick, Middlesex. Serving with the 6th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, he died in France on 5 May 1917, aged 26 years. He was buried in the Calais Southern Cemetery.

With a Silver War Badge having an enamelled centre, reverse privately engraved, ‘To Peggy from Jack’.
