Three: Private S. Drydale, 2nd Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who was killed in action, France/Flanders, 24 May 1915

Samuel Drydale was born in and enlisted at Scarborough, North Yorkshire. Serving with the 2nd Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action, France/Flanders on 24 May 1915, aged 49 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. He was the son of John and Ann Drydale. A letter from a comrade, recorded in The Scarborough Mercury, states that Drydale was shot dead by a bullet to the neck and died soon after.
