Lieutenant Guy Ogden de Peyster Chance, 1st Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers, was the youngest son of Mr W. E. Chance, of Thurston Grange, Bury St. Edmunds, born on 28 February 1892. He entered the Army in September 1911 and became a Lieutenant in April 1913. He accompanied his battalion - part of the 7th Division - from Lyndhurst, disembarking at Zeebrugge. He was killed in action on 19 October 1914 in the severe fighting near Dadizeele. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
