Frederick William Chivers joined the Royal Welsh Fusiliers on 16 May 1891 using the surname ‘Scott’ as an alias. He gave his place of birth as Redhill, Surrey, stated he was a Collier and was aged 18 years. With the regiment he served in Malta, July 1896-April 1897; Crete, April 1897-August 1898; Egypt, August-September 1898; and Crete, September 1898-January 1899. He was transferred to the Army Reserve in January 1899 but was recalled to the Colours in October the same year. He served in South Africa, October 1899-August 1902. Discharged in May 1903. In November 1915 he tried to join the Welsh Horse but was discharged after a week, probably on health grounds. Chivers died in Abertillery on 21 August 1946.
