Army Order 74 of April 1896: Master-Gunner George Kerr, late Royal Artillery.

George Kerr was born in the Parish of Coupar of Angus, Perthshire, and attested for the Royal Artillery at Aberdeen on 1 December 1847, aged 18 years. He was promoted to Bombardier in June 1854, to Corporal in February 1855, to Serjeant in November 1855, and appointed Master-Gunner of the Third Class at Broughty Castle in January 1863. He served in No. 4 Battery 12th Brigade in the Crimea for 2 years and in China for 2 years 11 months. Kerr was discharged to pension on 2 December 1868, his conduct being noted as ‘very good’. His discharge papers note that ‘He has been awarded the Crimean Medal with Clasps for “Alma”, “Balaklava”, “Inkermann” and “Sebastopol”, Distinguished Conduct and Turkish War Medals, and is a Knight 5th Class of Legion of Honour, also China Medal. He has been awarded a Silver Medal for Long Service and Good Conduct and a Gratuity of £15. He has never been convicted by Courts Martial and his name has not been recorded in the Regimental Defaulters Book. Sold with copied discharge papers and Regimental Orders.
