7th Royal Fusiliers Portrait Miniature of Lieutenant-Colonel Alexander Campbell Wylly, C.B., later commanding 95th Rifle Brigade, c. 1820, in the style of Sir William John Newton (1785-1869), finely executed water colour on ivory (3.5 x 3cm.), the subject shown in full dress of 7th Royal Fusiliers, wearing the C.B. and Waterloo Medal, with dark cloak over left shoulder, contained in glazed oval gilt case, in good overall condition £200-300

Alexander Campbell Wyllie was appointed Lieutenant in the 7th Foot on 11 July 1805; Captain, 19 June 1811; brevet Major, 16 March 1815; Lieutenant-Colonel, 18 June 1815. Served at Martinique in 1809 and in the Peninsula with 1/7th Foot, August 1810 to March 1812; on the Staff as A.D.C. to General Bowes to June 1812; and as A.D.C. to General Sir Edward Pakenham, July 1812 to April 1814. Present at Busaco, Pombal, Condeixa, Olivencia, 1st siege of Badajoz, Albuhera, Aldea del Pontea (severely wounded), 2nd siege of Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria, and actions in the Pyrenees. Served as A.D.C., to General Pakenham in North America and was engaged in the expedition against New Orleans, and sent home after Pakenham’s death with despatches from Sir John Lambert in which he was very honourably mentioned. He served afterwards in Flanders and was present at the battle of Waterloo as Assistant Adjutant-General (promoted Lieutenant-Colonel and appointed Companion of the Bath). He was appointed to command the 95th, 8 July 1825, and died in command at Malta on 10 November 1827.
