An interesting silver mounted dirk, circa 1790, the 65cm straight blade of flattened diamond section, wide silver propeller shaped cross-guard, square reeded ebony grip with silver ribbon inlay, silver ferrule and pommel with simple engraved borders, the latter with attached silver chain uniting it with the cross-guard, good condition overall, lacking scabbard

The hilt has all the appearance of a period midshipman’s dirk, but the length of blade would seem to refute this, perhaps a naval dirk remounted for use as a pillow sword.
