Mark Adrian Hoyle enlisted in the Army Air Corps in January 1981 and on completion of his basic training at Middle Wallop, joined 661 Squadron, 1 Regiment, A.A.C. in Germany. Having then undertaken a six month tour in Northern Ireland, he was advanced to Lance-Corporal in July 1983, the same year in which he undertook a tour of duty in Cyprus. A second tour in Northern Ireland followed in February-August 1984, following which he returned to an appointment in 2 Flight, 7 Regiment, A.A.C. at Netheravon, Wiltshire, in which capacity he was advanced to Corporal in September 1986 and to Sergeant in September 1988. Returning to Germany with an appointment as a communications specialist in 653 Squadron, 3 Regiment, A.A.C. in September 1988, he was similarly employed when called to the Gulf for “Desert Storm” in 1990-91. Promoted to Staff Sergeant in July 1991 and to Warrant Officer Class 2 in August 1993, he was serving in 661 Squadron, 1 Regiment, A.A.C. as a Squadron Sergeant-Major at the time of being employed by the U.N. in former Yugoslavia and Bosnia in 1995-6. In August 1997, he was appointed R.Q.M.S. at Middle Wallop and, on being advanced to Warrant Officer Class 1 in September 2001, took up his final appointment as R.S.M. in 7 Regiment, A.A.C. at Netheravon. He left the Colours in September 2003; sold with typewritten summary of his career.
