Army L.S. & G.C., W.IV.R. (John Godfrey, Scots Fusilier Guards. 1837) steel clip and ring suspension, some contact marks, very fine £600-700

John Godfrey was born in Thorpe, near Egham, Surrey and enlisted in the 3rd Foot Guards at Dunbar on 16 December 1813, aged 18 years. He served in Spain during 1814 and was present at Bayou (?) where he was wounded in the left thigh. Then in France and Belgium during 1815/16, he was present at the battle of Waterloo where he was wounded in the right thigh and knee. He later served in Portugal during 1827/28. He was discharged being unfit for further service as a consequence of extensive varicose veins to the legs, on 25 February 1836. His L.S. & G.C. Medal was sent to the Orderly Room on 6 March 1837. With copied service papers and other research - two men of this name to the 3rd Guards present at Waterloo.
