Edward Smith was born in the Parish of Wickham Brook, Suffolk, and attested for the Coldstream Guards at Queen’s Square, Middlesex, on 11 November 1840, aged 12 years. When he was discharged in London on 10 July 1857, he was only allowed to reckon 9 years 102 days service, being under age until 19 October 1846 and thereafter absent or confined and imprisoned on many occasions. Sold with copied discharge papers and medal roll entries for all four clasps.
