Punjab 1848-49, 1 clasp, Goojerat (Lieut. A. R. E. Hutchinson, 13th Bengal N.I.) some contact marks, very fine

A. R. E. Hutchinson was first commissioned on 30 January 1843 and promoted to Lieutenant in July 1846. As a Lieutenant in the 13th Bengal Native Infantry he served in the Punjab Campaign 1848-49 and was present at the battle of Goojerat (Medal and clasp). Promoted to Captain in July 1857. He then served as an Assistant Political Officer with the Nerbudda Field Force, in operations against Dhar in 1857. Was in command of 2 guns, a troop of cavalry and 2 companies of infantry in operations against the rebel Rajah of Amghera - he destroyed the hill fort of Lall Ghur and captured the errant Rajah. For his services he was mentioned in the Minute of the Governor-General. As Political Officer he served with the force commanded by General Michel at the action near Rajhghur in August 1858 (Medal). For his services he was mentioned in the despatch of 15 September 1858 and received the acknowledgement and thanks from the General and the Governor-General. He then served as Political Officer in December 1858 with the force commanded by Colonel Somerset and Colonel Benson and was mentioned in the despatch by the latter. Awarded the brevet of Major, 7 December 1858. In 1859 he was the Political Agent at Bhopal.
