Robert Hawkins was born in Shrewsbury on 29 August 1889. Aged 13 he became a Messenger Boy for the Post Office at Shrewsbury. He subsequently worked for 46 years for the Post Office Engineers and at length was awarded the Imperial Service Medal. He enlisted into the K.S.L.I. on 19 May 1910 and served overseas in India, October 1914-March 1915; Singapore, March 1915-July 1917, and France, July 1917-January 1918. Discharged on 31 March 1920. He died in Aberyswyth on 25 April 1958. With four associated postcard photographs; copied m.i.c. and some other research.
