France, Election of President Carnot, 1887, a large uniface cast bronze trial maquette for the obv. of the medal by J.-C. Chaplain, bust left, signature of the founder Richard on the back, 195mm (cf. Gaz. Num. 1897, p.20, 35). Very fine and very rare as a trial; pierced at top, and with old cord for suspension (£100-150)

The signature of the artist differs considerably from that on the finished medal, which was not executed until 1888. Illustrated on Plate IV in back of catalogue
