William IV (1830-1837), Proof Sovereign, 1831, second bust type, edge plain, 7.80gm (WR 261; S 3829 [recté second bust]). Some SURFACE MARKS, OTHERWISE ABOUT AS STRUCK, VERY RARE (£1,200-1,500)

Die-axis 6h. This coin, along with other 1831 proof Sovereigns issued in the specimen sets, bears the second bust, not introduced on the currency coins until 1832; the much rarer grained edge 1831 proofs (WR 262) are the only ones to bear the first bust. See Colour Plate V
