Victoria, Golden Jubilee, 1887, a gold medal by L.C. Wyon after Sir J.E. Boehm and Sir F. Leighton, crowned bust left, rev. enthroned figure of Empire surrounded by standing figures representing Science, Letters, Art, etc, Mercury and Time below, 58mm, 86.72g (W & E 2000.3; BHM 3219; E 1733a). Test mark on obverse rim at 10 o’clock, otherwise brilliant and virtually as struck; in original red leather case £1,800-2,200

Provenance: The back of the official descriptive label is inscribed in a neat hand “This medal was given to me by my Father, John Child, for my ‘birth’ day, June 27 1887, at 10 Holland Villas Road, Kensington. I am giving it today, June 27 1937, to my first great nephew, Joe Child, hoping that he will like to keep it to give away again 50 years hence.
