Albert Leckonby Ward was born in Beaconsfield, South Africa on 8 March 1890. In 1911, living in Cardiff, he was employed as an Apprentice Pilot. He gained his Certificate of Competency as Second Mate on 31 October 1913 and as First Mate on 19 March 1915. He was appointed Skipper, R.N.R. on 19 April 1915. As Skipper of Ostrich II he was one of the officers ‘mentioned’ for services in operations of the Dover Patrol between December 1915 and May 1916. Appointed Sub-Lieutenant, R.N.R. by order of the Admiralty in August 1916.
Albert Ward, of Whitchurch, Glamorganshire, died on 13 August 1928. With copied research including copies of his Certificates of Competency.
