Private William Burness, 1st Battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment, entered France on 13 August 1914. He was killed in action at Loos on 28 September 1915, aged 20 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial. He was the son of Mrs Mary Ann Burness, of 35 Sabbarton Street, Poplar, London. With copied m.i.c. - clasp not confirmed.
