William Clifton was born in and enlisted at Ticehurst. Serving with the 2nd Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 12 August 1914. He was killed in action on 25 January 1915, aged 34 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial. He was the son of the late James and Annie Clifton and brother of E. Clifton, of 8 Holly Bank Terrace, Crescent Road, Tunbridge Wells. With copied m.i.c. and casualty details; clasp confirmed.
