William Joseph Clay was born, lived and enlisted at Chelsea. Serving in the 2nd Battalion Royal Fusiliers, he entered the Balkan theatre of war on 25 August 1915. He died in Egypt on 12 November 1915 and was buried in the Cairo Memorial Cemetery.
