A fine Great War D.C.M., M.M. group of five awarded to Sergeant J. Fulton, Machine Gun Corps, late Liverpool Regiment - he ‘was badly wounded and then captured’ but ‘after a desperate struggle, in which he disposed of two of his captors, he escaped and got back to his guns’

‘For conspicuous gallantry and skill in a critical situation. He got two machine-guns forward, and after inflicting heavy casualties on two strong parties of the enemy, tried to hold his ground, but was badly wounded and then captured. After a desperate struggle, in which he disposed of two of his captors, he escaped and got back to his guns. He showed fine courage and resource throughout.’

James Fulton, a native of Glasgow, was embarked for France as a Private in the Liverpool Regiment in mid-July 1915 but later transferred to the Machine Gun Corps and was awarded his D.C.M. and M.M. in respect of gallantry in the 31st Battalion, M.G.C. during 1918; sold with brief research.
