A rare Malaya operations D.F.C. group of six awarded to Squadron Leader J. A. B. Pemberton, Royal Air Force

Distinguished Flying Cross, E.II.R., the reverse officially dated ‘1956’; 1939-45 Star; Burma Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45; General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Malaya, G.VI.R., M.I.D. oak leaf (Flt. Lt. J. A. B. Pemberton, R.A.F.), mounted court-style as worn, the last with edge bruise, otherwise generally good very fine (6) £3000-3500

D.F.C. London Gazette 8 May 1956:

‘In recognition of gallant and distinguished service in Malaya.’

John Anthony Bertram Pemberton, who was born in February 1925, was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in March 1944. Remaining in the R.A.F. after the War, he was advanced to Flight Lieutenant in September 1947 and, in addition to the D.F.C., was awarded a mention in despatches for earlier services in Malaya (
London Gazette 29 October 1954, refers). Pemberton was placed on the Retired List as a Squadron Leader in May 1957.
