Guy Wemys Alcock was born on 5 November 1908. Entering the Royal Navy, he was rated as a Midshipman (Engineer) in January 1928. Promoted to Sub Lieutenant (E) in May 1930; Lieutenant (E) in October 1932; Lieutenant-Commander (E) in April 1940; Commander (E) in June 1944 and Acting Captain (E) in April 1951. Awarded the O.B.E. (Military) on 13 June 1946.
