J. John Houghton enlisted on 4 February 1916. Serving in the field with the Army Cyclist Corps, he received gunshot wounds to the right foot and left leg on 2 November 1918 and was invalided home. He was discharged due to his wounds on 25 February 1919 and was awarded the Silver War Badge (not with lot).
With original registered envelope for the war medals, addressed to him at ‘3 Guildhall Rd., Aintree, Lancs.’; five letters with envelopes to Houghton dated 1919 and two letters with envelopes to his wife from Houghton, dated 1921 - these seven all addressed ‘45 Rufford Road, Crossens, Southport’. With some copied service papers, roll extract and m.i.c.
