Burgess Smith McMeekin was born in Paisley on 14 November 1932. He enlisted into the Royal Scots at Edinburgh on 14 August 1950 and after service with the 1st Battalion in the BAOR, served in Korea from 5 June 1953 to 3 January 1954. He was discharged from the Regular Army on 13 August 1955 and served as a Reserve Soldier until 13 August 1962. He married Mary Montgomery on 9 August 1957 when he was living at 45 Caledonia Road, Paisley, Scotland.
