Four: Private R. Brooke, King’s Own Scottish Borderers

Ralph Brooke was born in Batley, West Yorkshire on 4 June 1896. A Millhand by occupation, he enlisted into the King’s Own Scottish Borderers at Dewsbury on 8 June 1915. With the 1st Battalion he entered the Balkan theatre of war on 24 September 1915. He served in France, April- 8 July 1916 and again, October 1916-January 1917. He was discharged as no longer physically fit for war service at Hamilton on 1 August 1917. His papers record that he had a wound to the left leg below the knee.
