Malcolm Kirkwood King, who was born in October 1886 and educated at Strathbungo Public School, was serving as a C.Q.M.S. in the 1st Battalion, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, in India, on the outbreak of hostilities, but was quickly embarked with his unit for England and went out to France in late December 1914. Remaining actively employed in the same theatre of war until November 1915, he was embarked for Salonika with the 1st Battalion in the following month, and was commissioned in the Field as a 2nd Lieutenant in September 1916. Remaining similarly employed until the War’s end, King was awarded the M.B.E. and twice mentioned in despatches (
London Gazettes 30 January and 5 June 1919, refer), in addition to the Greek Military Cross (London Gazette 21 July 1919, refers). He was placed on the Retired List with the rank of Captain in December 1923; sold with copied research.
