The Indian Mutiny Medal awarded to Bugler William Ward, 52nd Light Infantry, who was dangerously wounded at Delhi, 14 September 1857

William Ward was born in Lakenham, Norwich. A Wool Comber by occupation, he attested for the 52nd Regiment at Norwich on 19 June 1843, aged 19 years, 10 months. Appointed a Bugler in June 1845. With the 52nd L.I. he served 2 years 2 months in North America and 5 years 7 months in the East Indies. Being present at Delhi during the suppression of the Indian Mutiny, he was dangerously wounded in the left groin by a musket ball, 14 September 1857. As a result of his wound he was invalided to England and was discharged being unfit for further service on 23 January 1860. With copied service papers.
